The Master Therion I-Ching

Hexagram # 36

Hexagram 36. Ming I
Darkening of the Light  MING

Intelligence sore hurt; reflect
On the position rigidly correct.

Hurt? Droop thy wings and fast, while critics leager.
A horse may save one wounded in the thigh.
Thy great foe taken, be thou not over eager!
Escape from night by mind's propriety.
b
Think how the court of Ki
a met destiny.
At last earth swallows him that trod the sky.

b  propriety: "correctness," "that which is suiting."

a the court of Ki: This hexagram has a historical background:
Prince Chi (Ki) lived under the tyrant Chou Hsin, and feigned madness to overcome the tyrant,
thus he kept himself in high spirits and survived. (Like the western Hamlet.)
