Logos

From "Selected Poems" p. 194

Out of the night forth flamed a star - mine own!
Now seventy light-years nearera as I urge
Constant mine heart through the abyss unknown.
Its glory my sole guide while spaces surge
About me. Seventy light-years! As I near
That gate of light that men call death, its cold
Pale gleam begins to pulse, a throbbing sphere,
Systole and diastoleb of eager gold,
New life immortal, warmth of passion bleed
Till night's black velvet burn to crimson. Hark!
It is Thy voice. Thy word, the secret seed
Of rapture that admonishes the dark.
Swift! By necessity most righteous drawn,
Hermesc, authentic augurd of the dawn!

a Poem written by our Poet when seventy years old

b Systole and diastole: the pulsing in and out, the drawing together and spreading out, of the heart and the universe

c Hermes: the Greek god of wisdom, communication, thieves and commerce like Odin also "the word" or Greek: "Logos".

d augur: the diviner telling about some divine subject or predicting the future. Our Poet, the Logos of the New Era, feels yet once more relieved by this spirit.
